LEIF ERIKSON REAL STUFF

As the never-ending 'UK guitar music' argument continues to rumble along, there is one band quietly going about their business with increasing assurance. Leif Erikson are releasing the most potent brand of indie rock to come out of this country for some time and 'Real Stuff' is yet another flawless outing. The London-based five-piece nod to the American giants of their genre as notes of The War On Drugs join Ryan Adams-esque song-craft in their timeless work, as blues-driven guitar riffs join twinkling piano and beds of cold synths bring gently melancholic subtext to proceedings. Lead-singer Sam describes the song as "a straight rock song, it's my utopian dream. For a long time I've thought I'd like to live a life similar to the one described in the lyrics, but maybe it's not feasible or realistic, for now I'll let it take place in the song and see how I go. The film Into the Wild was an inspiration." The new cut comes from a forthcoming mini-album and ahead of a headline show at London's Lexington on 30 November. The 'Real Stuff' indeed. -G.O'B
